FAQ about switching energy providers

This section contains frequently asked questions and answers about what happens after you've completed the comparison process and have chosen to switch energy providers.

It's okay if you change your mind because your new energy provider provides you a ten-day 'cooling-off' period, that means you have ten days to change your mind and remain with your old energy provider.
No. You won't need to do anything like that. The delivery of actual energy to your house, via the pipes and wires, is done by an energy distributer (not your energy retailer). That distributor will continue to supply energy to your premises if you switch over to a different energy retailer. The retailer issues your energy bills, however, they purchase energy from the distributor and resell it to you. You can't purchase energy directly from your distributor, you have to go through an energy retailer. You can be sure that there won't be any interruption to your energy supply when you switch retailers, because the underlying connection to the distributor will continue to be the same as before.
All the 'paperwork' is processed quite quickly, usually in less than 24 hours. But the actual switchover won't take place until your old provider has issued you their final bill, and they can't do that until after your next meter reading. So, it depends on when your next meter reading be. It be up to three months.
We'll sign you up with your new energy provider, and we also tell your present provider that you're switching away from them. The switch to the new provider will not happen immediately, because your current provider will have to do a meter reading one final time. and then send you a final bill. Your new provider begins charging you from the date that the meter is read. the energy distributor that supplies the energy to your home will continue to be the same as before the switch.
No. Our service is free to you. We will, however, be paid a commission by your new energy provider. While our service is provided to you without charge, you may be subject to charges in relation to your current service, including exit fees. You should check this with your current supplier(s).

Tips to reduce energy consumption to save money

Here are some easily implemented ways to reduce how much you spend on energy

  • Minimise draughts. Prevent hot or cold air blowing in or leaving via gaps under doors and around your windows through the use of gap seal tape and door snakes.
  • Avoid using your clothes dryer. Dry your clothes outside or alternatively, use an indoor clothing rack.
  • A cheap alternative to an electric blanket is a hot water bottle.
  • Rather than turn on the heater, wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather (jumper, beanie, booties, warm socks).
  • Turn appliances off at the power socket when they're not in use.
  • Close doors to rooms that you aren't using, so that you only have to cool or heat a smaller area.
  • Reduce air conditioning use by opening windows in the evening let the cool air in, then shutting them each morning to keep the hot air out.
  • Prevent the hot sun over-heating rooms by closing curtains and blinds in rooms into which the hot sun directly shines in.
  • Minimise lighting. Use natural lighting where possible.
